Getting The Measure Of Things

I love the illustration for my story in the current (June 24th) issue of My Weekly. As you might guess, sunflowers are important to the plot. I’ve never had much success growing them, myself, but I love seeing the big cheerful flowers in other people’s gardens – especially when they peer out over fences, or pop up in unexpected places.

The story is set in Little Mallow – the same fictional village as the cosy crime novel I’m currently editing. It features some of the same characters too. I wrote quite a few short stories set in Little Mallow before I began the novel. I suppose you could say I was getting the measure of the place and characters!

  1. Lovely illustration, I love sunflowers too they are so cheerful but they don’t half stink when they are cut, so best left growing where they are.
Love fictional villages and Little Mallow sounds idyllic but I suspect there may be undercurrents, can’t wait to read more about it.

  2. Love the sunflower illustration! And congrats on publication of another short story. I did the same thing in a way. My short story “Love at Sunset” and then the sequel “Twilight Paradise” were published in “The Lady”. People told me they loved them and that they wanted more, so I ended up writing the novel “Love at Sunset”, which became “Dangerous Devotion”!
